READ: Barriers

"a circumstance or obstacle that keeps people or things apart or prevents communication or progress."

Barriers hold us back. Barriers can stop us from moving forward in the direction we want to. Barriers can keep things locked up.

Barriers in communication stop us from expressing ourselves congruently, in line with our values and beliefs.

When we stop expressing ourselves congruently, our needs stop being met.

A barrier can be an obstacle to having a need met. To be heard, to be understood, to be respected, to be included, to be supported - the list goes on.

When our needs stop being met, we don't feel like ourselves, we don't feel nourished and we 'feel the gap'. We feel inauthentic.

When this happens over a period of time, this can lead to mental health struggles, poor self esteem, feelings of inadequacy, resentment, imposter syndrome and many other challenging feelings. Not having our needs met is a challenging place to be in.

There's a silver lining with barriers - if you look in the right direction, you can see them coming down the line.

If you look in the right direction, and spot them, then you can avoid being caught out by them - and work your way around them.

If you look in the right direction, you can even choose to try a completely different route all together and form a new route you can repeat in the future.

We'll be exploring the concept of communication and authenticity barriers - and how to spot them - at Reset.

Reset is a 3 day retreat in the Sussex Countryside to help you re-connect with your authentic self and find routes to express yourself confidently in the world.

Up to 20 people will join us on this retreat and I'd love your help getting the word out there.

Please share if appropriate for your audience, and express interest via the website for more information - upcoming events are on the retreats page.

Thank you 🙏
